Course Objective

The main purpose of this course is to focus on the role of Geographical factors at global economic relations, with particular reference to the main regions and interaction among them. For this purpose, firstly awareness on geographical factors on global economics will be raised among students, along with sufficient information on basic concepts, geographical regions, their characteristics, as well as economic integration movements based on geographical affinity.

3   demonstrate their knowledge on regional integration movements in these areas.

4 European integration: Historical background, structure and trade policies
5 Geo-economic Faultlines in Europe and Geographical Determinants of German Economy as the core of the Eurozone
6 Mid-Term
7 Geo-economics of the Americas: US and the Latin American economies (NAFTA, Mercosur, Andean Community et al).
8 Geo-economic factors in East Asian development patterns (China and the Asian Tigers, ASEAN, APEC)
9 Geo-economy of South Asia (with particular focus on India)
10 MENA and the Gulf Region: Patterns of Trade, Development and Sustainability
11 Geo-economics of Eurasia (CIS and the Central Asia): Trends, opportunities, challenges.

Assessment Criteria

1. The learner will be fully prepared to discuss reading assignments and cases.
2. The learner will clearly describe the geographical factors that determine the economical background of a region.
3. The learner will demonstrate sufficient knowledge on the major geo-economic areas and interaction among them.
4. The learner will present the analysis of selected geo-economic regions, with particular reference to the relevant regional economic integration movements.

1. Plagiarism of any type will result in disciplinary action.
2. Attending at least 70 percent of lectures is mandatory.
3. All assignments should be submitted on time. Otherwise will not be accepted.
