Course Objective

The main focus of this course is to introduce basic concepts and principles of experimental method and scientific approach. This course will examine the features of observational, correlational, and experimental methods; ethical issues in research; and how to read and write research reports. Furthermore, this course will focus on how these experimental methods are used in different areas such as cognitive, social and developmental psychology.

2   Will be able to define a causal relationship and give examples,
3   Will be able to identify scientific article types and their features,
4   Will be able to define variables used in scientific research and give examples,
5   Will be able to understand and critically evaluate the ethical issues in experimental research,
6   Will be able to describe experimental designs and their features,
7   Will be able to explain how experimental methods are used in different research areas of psychology,
8   Will be able to explain how to read and write research reports.

Assessment Criteria

In total, two exams and one homework/ presentation will be conducted. There will be open-ended questions in the levels of information, comprehension, analysis, interpretation and synthesis for all exams.
