Course Objective

This course aims at an introduction to the Decision Support Systems (DSS) and their use in supporting the decision making process in different organizations. It includes
DSS components, DSS technology levels, DSS analysis and design, managerial
cognitive styles, development languages and their applications.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Recognize and use problem solving techniques through the use of decision support systems.
2   Create modeling concepts through the use of integrated software resources for decision making.
3   Analyze the advantages and disadvantages for decision support.
4   Demonstrate knowledge of building decision support systems with various functionalities through spreadsheet, database, and decision support software.
5   Use of decision support system components.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course is taught in a lecture, class presentation and discussion format. Besides the taught lecture, group presentations are to be prepared by the groups assigned and presented in a discussion session. In some weeks of the course, results of the homework given previously are discussed.
