Course Objective

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To gain basic glass and ceramic proficiency by using glass and ceramic tools and techniques.
2   To apply basic glass beads and to combine them with jewelry designs.
3   To apply basic ceramic forms and to combine them with jewelry designs.
4   To criticize a work of art.
5   To understand the third dimension in the object.
6   To gain the ability to reveal original designs by conducting studies and to research on a subject.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 To provide the student with basic information about the use of ceramic and glass technology in the field of jewellery.
2 Glass types and application techniques
3 Information and application studies about bead applications in the glass atelier
4 Introduction to Ceramic Art course; definition, importance and scope of ceramics, tools used in making ceramics. Information and introduction about ceramic clay
5 Surface studies to understand three dimensions on ceramic clay.
6 Surface design and decoration techniques (openwork, relief, puar, etc.) and application
7 Mid-term exam.
8 Design, study and application based on abstraction and stylization starting from an object, concept and imagination.
9 Design preparation for jewellery making. Clay studies.
10 Making necklaces, earrings, rings, etc. jewellery by using the learned techniques.
11 Applying various forms of jewellery.
12 Applying various forms of jewellery.
13 Design and application with ceramic decoration techniques.
14 Decorated, undecorated and glazed, unglazed firing techniques
