Course Objective

To give the necessary technological knowledge about the definition of the glazes, the glaze formula calculations, glaze types and glazing techniques.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To define the glaze and the raw materials used in glazes.
2   To calculate Seger Formula.
3   To outline the frit and fritting.
4   To describe the glazing techniques.
5   To define the coloring glazes and the oxides used for coloring the glazes.
6   To apply the prepared glazes.

1 The Importance of Occupational Health and Safety in the use of workshops/laboratories, work accidents and occupational diseases, precautions to be taken and sample practices
2 Description of the glazes, and properties of the raw materials used in the glazes.

5 Firing reactions of the glazes
6 Description of the frits and using purpose of the frits. Frit preparation techniques and relevant controls.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The theoretical lectures of the course will be taught in the classroom and the applications of the theoretical issues will be taught in the laboratory. The instructor will discuss the theoretical and applications of the course for better understanding.
