Course Objective

History of the mosaics art. Mosaics art in the ancient Anatolian civilizations. Ancient mosaic production techniques. Historical development and present situation of the mosaic art. Mosaic production materials. Application areas of mosaics. Design of mosaics (art and industrial types). Techniques of mounting of mosaics. Drying, control and packing of the mosaics.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability of defining the historical development of mosaic art
2   Gain information on mosaic production machinery and other hand-tools
3   Ability to define the chemicals and other materials used in mosaic production.
4   Ability of drawing and designing mosaic products
5   Be able to show how industrial mosaics are produced and applied

1 What is mosaic art, its historical development and usage areas, general information on production techniques, The importance of Occupational Health and Safety in the use of workshops/laboratories, work accidents and occupational diseases, precautions to be taken for this and sample practices
2 Introduction and use of materials required for mosaic production
3 General information on mosaic art and application examples in the polytheistic period, mosaic applications in the monotheistic belief period
4 What are artistic mosaic design and production techniques and how are they applied
5 Artistic mosaic application studies
6 Today, artistic mosaic applications and contemporary mosaic art sample application work
7 General Review, Course Evaluation, Midterm exam
8 Materials and application examples used in contemporary mosaic art
9 What is industrial mosaic What are production machinery equipment
10 What are the production techniques of industrial mosaic molds and materials to be applied to the molds
11 Industrial mosaic model design studies.
12 Drying methods of the produced mosaics
13 Preservation, packaging and packaging of produced mosaics
14 Application forms of mosaics in the end user
