Course Objective

To inform about general properties and structures of fibres used in textile; to recognize,categorize them; to analyse the way they are obtained,their basic properties of natural fibres ;to teach and analyse their usage area by using visual samples;to enable to establish a connection between the selection of materials and product properties during the process of design and production.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Define basic structural properties of textile fbres.
2   Guess the content of fibre/fabric fom its handle, view and burning behaviour
3   Classify natural fibres used in textiles according to their sources
4   Define the ways of how natural fibres are obtained
5   Define the usage areas of natural fibres
6   Select suitable fibre on the basis of product properties as a part of design and production process

1 Classification of textile fibres, common properties and usage areas
2 Fine structures of fibres,quality and basic properties of usage
3 Introduction to natural fibres;cotton fibres,its production, properties and usage areas.
4 Continuity to the subject, analysis of fibres and fabrics
5 Linen fibres; their production, properties and usage areas, analysis of fibres and fabrics
6 Hemp fibres; their production, properties and usage areas, analysis of fibres and fabrics
7 Jute fibres; their production, properties and usage areas, analysis of fibres and fabrics
8 Leaf and fruit fibres; their production, properties and usage areas, analysis of fibres and fabrics
9 Introduction to animal fibres; classification, obtaining of wool fibres,their properties and usage areas
10 Continuity to the subject, analysis of fibres and fabric samples
11 Special animal fibres;cashmere, camel hair,alpaca,vicuna,mohair,rabbit fibres,their properties
12 Special animal fibres;cashmere, camel hair,alpaca,vicuna,mohair,rabbit fibres,their properties
