Course Objective

The aims of this course are the capabilities of students to; to form their designs within the assigned projects, take part in the production period, solve the problems during this process, reflect the technical data they learned to the production, decide on the new and old methods employed considering their designs and improve their skills, keep up with the latest equipments and methods and get the application knowledge for using them in their design .

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Decide on the suitable production method and form the design according to the production method in design and production period
2   design and produce the demanded product ( micron, gram, sale capacity etc.) in accordance with the specified standards
3   Learn and employ the delicate candle moulding method which is very important in ornament and jewellery production
4   Employ the mosaic method in ornament and jewellery production
5   Employ the filigree method, one of the traditional methods in ornament and jewellery production
6   Have knowledge on embellishing techniques used in ornament and jewellery production and use them in his /her designs in accordance with the designing methods.

1 Introduction of methods used in the ornament and jewellery production, explaining the jewellery embellishing methods
2 Introduction of the necessary equipments used in formalizing the pillar candle that will be worked by using delicate candle moulding method and showing the usage of equipments, student s determining the candle type she / he will formalize
3 Delicate candle moulding method study
4 Finalizing delicate candle moulding method study
5 Explain the mosaic method employed in ornament and jewellery production, deciding the jewellery stones that will be used, student s devising the employed method
6 Producing the ornament object for employing the mosaic method
7 Producing the ornament object for employing the mosaic method
8 Finalizing the study of producing the ornament object for employing the mosaic method
9 Explain the filigree method employed in ornament and jewellery production, deciding equipments that will be used, student s devising the employed method
10 Producing the ornament object for employing the filigree method
11 Producing the ornament object for employing the filigree method
12 Finalizing the study of producing the ornament object for employing the filigree method
13 Making up the shortages in production process- if there is any

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

1-Teaching
The lecturer explains the methods practically used in ornament and jewellery production and reinforce with visual presentation, wants students to come to the class preparedly
2- Research:
The students complete the technical research in accordance with the knowledge they learn in the course and share the research in the class.
3- Assigning the project and technical analysis
In accordance with the assigned project, the student completes his / her design for using the demanded production method. Designs and production methods are discussed in the class. The lecturer and the student share their ideas on technical analysis
4-Production period
The production period begins, once all production method problems are solved and the designs are selected. At this stage, the production, inclusive of the utilities of the atelier, begins. However, students may get help from the sources, except for the faculty, when there is necessary technical equipment which cannot be provided by the faculty.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

1- Students research on the taught methods, their performance throughout the design and production period (their capabilities of performing technical analysis, using the equipments properly employed in production techniques, solving the problems, completing the production etc.)
2- Students performances in front of the evaluation jury (their abilities of defending their designs, their technical qualifications)
Will be taken into consideration.

Assessment Criteria

1- The student's research on the techniques taught, the performance of the student in the process from design to the completion of the production process (making technical analysis, using the materials used in production techniques correctly, solving the problems encountered, finalizing the production)

2- The performance of the student in the evaluation jury (ability to defend his/her designs, technical equipment) will be taken into consideration.

Course Policies and Rules

1.There is an 80 % obligation in attendance to lesson.
2. All plagiarism attempts and actions would end up in disciplinary punishment
3. If one doesn t hand over the required sketch- design studies on time, the evaluation would be carried out by taking this into consideration. But the student is supposed to hand over required things.
4. For late project deliveries, decreasing a letter grade for each day will be applied.
