Course Objective

The aim of this course is to have the students examine the traditional textiles such as carpet, tülü, filikli, gabbeh which are woven by knot technique, and have them make applications using these techniques.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   know the knotted weaving techniques,
2   be informed of the certain locals where the knotted weaving techniques are used,
3   identify the features of locals, motifs, compositions and raw materials in accordance with the techniques,
4   learn the design preparation periods in accordance with knotted weaving techniques,
5   make designs in accordance with knotted weaving techniques,
6   use information technologies during researching and designing.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The instructor assign the students to research knotted weaving techniques and the places they are used. During the research, the instructor consult the students. After the research, the study is submitted as a report and is presented in class.
As the application project, the students are asked to make original designs using knotted weaving techniques. In the meantime, in the lesson, designs are discussed in accordance with the technique, material, colour, composition, originality and content, and the instructor guide the students .

Evaluation is based on the content and presentation of the student s research report, his project studies and the portfolio at the end of the term, his efforts, ideas and discussions during the term.
