Course Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce the students the textiles used in our traditional life. Furthermore, we aim to have the students analyse the threads used in these textiles, and have them make experimental textiles suited to the old ones.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   determine the old samples of local textiles,
2   document the local textiles in accordance with research methods and techniques,
3   make up the identity form of the local textiles,
4   compare the local textiles in the light of the knowledge on the identity form,
5   assess the analysis of threads and fabrics used in local textiles,
6   make experimental weavings after the evaluation of the data.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

After giving academic information on the subjects in the lessons, we aim to create opportunities for the students to make researches in different regions, and have them make weavings similar to experimental ones after these studies.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The students will do experimental weavings by using local raw materials after the thread analysis and they will be evaluated with the result of this study.

Assessment Criteria

In accordance with the aim of the course, the students must be able to determine some data acceptable to the original form, such as suitable weaver s reed, thread, firmness and dimension etc., and also do application experiments.

1- 80% attendance is compulsory.
2- The equipment ( loop, ruler, scissors, plotting paper, etc.) necessary for the course must be provided by the students.
