Course Objective

During the course, blocks, karakalem and elvan printing techniques will be studied. Students will inspect and study theeir chosen natural objects. The motifs that are obtained after these studies will be transferred into blocks and block printing will be applied on textile surfaces, using the traditional printing techniques

1   To understand the stylistic qualities of traditional printing designs.
2   To prepare a collection of textiles, using printing designs.
3   To understand the traditional printing techniques.
4   The create new printing blocks derived from natural objects.5
5   To be able to create contemporary printing designs

Course Contents

1 A natural object will be chosen. It s design qualities will be inspected and will be turned into a new design in the style of traditional block printing designs.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In the course, the traditional printed textile products will be applied, in the light of basic textile design rules.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

All the work carried out by the student will be evaluated as a single Project, to be presented to a jury. Student s performance during presentation and his/her work will be evaluated seperately.

Assessment Criteria

Project work and the presentation performance will be evaluated seperately on 100 points basis. 70 % of the project points and 30 % of the performance points will add up to the final result.

Attandence to the course compulsary. The atelier work is paramount. Especially the design applications must be carried out in the atelier, during the duration of the course.
