Course Objective

The aim is to have the students make original pattern designs related to local rugs and plain weavings which have been analyzed technically and in terms of design features.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   recognize the local rugs and plain weavings technically,
2   determine the design features of local rugs based on samples,
3   be able to make original pattern designs,
4   be able to use a program suitable for rug design,
5   represent the generated design or designs effectively.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

A research of ornament and composition belonging to a chosen region will be carried out, and new and original rug designs will be made.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

In the course, after a detailed research related to the chosen local weavings, two rug designs will be made. One of them will be original and the other will be based on the chosen region. 10 sketches will be prepared for each design, and 3 colour versions will be prepared for one of the sketches. And then, one of these will be painted by using tempera after printed on a ground paper.

Assessment Criteria

The Research files prepared by the students will be evaluated out of 100. Besides, at the end of the term, the designs they have made will be evaluated out of 100 by the jury. The 40% of the Research File grade and the 60% of the jury evaluation will determine the pass grade.

Course Policies and Rules

The compulsory attendance is 80%. Before the end of the term, in the last 15 days, students will be able to learn their attendance. Students having absenteeism over 80% won t be accepted to the final exam. Students who are on sick leave will be considered absent. Students who don t attend the jury evaluation without an excuse won t be accepted for the evaluation by any means.
