Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach the students linings used in ceramics in different cultures; traditional Luster technique, and produce new things using this technique; Raku technique and produce new things by this technique; Copper-tone glazing and produce new things by this technique; reducer environment baking and its applications.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   prepare and apply the lining used in ceramics of different cultures,
2   learn traditional Luster technique and produce new things using it,
3   learn Raku technique and produce new things using it,
4   learn copper-tone glazing in different cultures and produce new things using them,
5   learn reducer environment baking methods in different cultures and applying them.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, the subjects within the program will be taught theoretically and practically. Applications will be done by recognizing the ceramics and their technical features of different cultures and making new try-outs. The results will be disputed in class.

Because of being both a theoretical and a practical course, the evaluation will be made as both theoretically and the assessment of practicing results.

Assessment Criteria

Mid term, the project and the final exam will be considered in evaluation.

The course will be taught in a laboratory, so the environment should provide an effective study atmosphere and it will be necessary to obey the rules set before. The technique to be applied must be as in the production process as much as possible. Attendance is compulsory.
