Course Objective

Practitioners and scholars of international relations get engaged with ethical (normative) questions in one way or another while analyzing and/or tackling a number of issues concerning war, peace, conflict resolution, human rights, development, environment, etc. The aims of this course are twofold: to make students familiar with major schools of thought on ethics and to get them analyze oft-disputed international issues from the differing perspectives of these schools.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be familiar with the most significant theoretical approaches to international ethics. (knowledge)
2   To be able to deploy or to refer to particular ethical arguments or debates while explaining and/or seeking solutions to international issues. (knowledge)
3   To be able to recognize the normative dimensions of different forms of social explanation as applied to world politics. (knowledge)
4   To be able to make power-point presentations in class-room. (professional)
5   To be able to engage in academic discussions with the rest of co-learners as well as the lecturer. (professional)
6   To be able to get access independently to the relevant sources, including IR and media material. (transferable)
