Course Objective

It is aimed to make students understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance and communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
It is aimed to enhance the students speaking skills and most importantly is to improve their critical thinking skills and give the students the confidence to tackle any situation.
The main objectives of listening are for students to understand the main idea(s) and supporting details of a lecture, to acquire strategies to retain content words and key information from a conversation or from a short lecture and to grasp a speaker's opinion or attitude from a conversation, lecture, or editorial-type presentation.
It is aimed to improve student s German skills using reading and fluency activities. The overall objective is for students to learn to become lifelong readers of German for pleasure and information.
It is aimed to provide students with focus on particular aspects of paragraph writing, such as topics, style, and development, writing support to help them find, orginize, and Express their ideas and language support to help them with vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   ask for or pass on personal details in written form.
2   follow speech which is very slow and carefully articulated, with long pauses for him/her to assimilate meaning
3   understand very short, simple texts a single phrase at a time, picking up familiar names, words and basic phrases and rereading as required.
4   communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters to do with work and free time
5   deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.

2 W- questions, personal pronouns, verbs and conjugations,possessive adjectives
3 to fill in a form / an application form, to introduce family members, alphabet and numbers
4 modifying objects and their quantities, dialogue at the supermarket
5 asking for the places and giving directions, to express likes/ dislikes
6 Yes/ No questions, definite/indefinite/negative/zero article, plural nouns, Adverbs of place, adjectives, negations
7 house ad, to read and to understand a newspaper article, colours, weights and unit of measurement
8 time, days of the week, daily routine, weather/ seasons/four cardinal directions
9 Mid-term Exam
10 Dialogues at the Supermarkt, Food and Ordering at a Restaurant
11 verb forms and using the verbs in a sentence, prepositions, the accusative case, Yes/No questions and answers

Assessment Criteria

1. The student will write simple isolated phrases and sentences. Longer texts contain expressions and show coherence problems which make the text very hard or impossible to understand.
2. The student will understand very short, simple texts a single phrase at a time, picking up familiar names, words and basic phrases and rereading as required.
3. The student will produce simple mainly isolated phrases about people and places.
4. The student will learn the basic grammar rules in German.
