Course Objective

This course aims to analyze the political, economic, technological, intellectual and cultural ingredients of major wars and revolutions occurred in Europe. Rather than focusing on the well known explanations of major wars and revolutions, the course aims to develop a critical way of thinking on historical facts. The Dutch Revolt, British Civil War, French Revolution, Industrial Revolution, The First World War, Russian Revolution, and the Second World War are amongst the main topics that are to dealt with within the scope of this course.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Acquire advanced knowledge on European and World history, and to develop critical analyses benefiting from security theories
2   Understand the evolution of major revolutions that left their mark on European and World history with a security perspective
3   Develop a critical understanding of causes and effects of wars benefiting from security theories
4   Identify and apply appropriate perspectives and methodologies to analyze World history
5   Develop original analysis on major conflicts and wars in the World history applying advanced writing, research and analytical skills
6   Make detailed and well-turned presentations
