Course Objective

To impart the skills needed for students to be able to recognize the major works and define the basic concepts associated with new music techniques.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The ability to define basic concepts associated with new music techniques;
2   The ability to explain the theoretical basis for special effects on the strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion both orally and in writing;
3   The ability to associate new music techniques found in major works with their respective composers;
4   The ability to interpret works of the new music repertoire both orally and in writing;
5   The ability to create a musical work for any instrument or group of instruments using new music techniques.
