Course Objective


The aim of this course is to teach the basic rules of analyzing tonal musical pieces stylistically and harmonically.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Indicate the basic harmonic structure of a musical piece in any tonality,
2   Identify the stylistic properties of a musical piece,
3   Write the harmonic and stylistic structures of a musical piece as a report,
4   Distinguish the basic properties of 2 and 3 part song forms,
5   Identify and analyze the unfamiliar notes in harmonic structure.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The rules and techniques of polyphonic music writing will be given by the instructor with examples while the students will actively participate in the subjects in a turn based manner.
Home assignments will be given according to each subject to be delivered until the next class.
