Course Objective

to apply fundamental behaviours of piano playing using a piano method for beginners and to develop student's piano performance.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Introduction: assignment of lesson material, proper posture at piano Talking about right sitting, position of shoulders, arms, hands and fingers, identify the instrument and note reading
2 Continuation of the previous lesson
3 Right hand exercises and basic technics Names of notes, duration and fingers
4 Left hand exercises and basic technics Names of notes, duration and fingers
5 Hands together
6 Playing five finger patterns etudes including paralel and opposite movements
7 C-major and simple time signatures
8 Common chord progressions
9 Chord inversions in C major and A Minor
10 Mid-term exam
11 Playing compound time signature etudes in right tempo and dynamics. Interpreting simple musical signs 6/8, rests, musical phrases, finger numbers, accents, reprises etc.
12 Playing chords and etudes in five finger patterns in different tones
13 Technical studies
14 Final jury evaluation

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The student's level of piano technics and repertory are assigned by the instructor and every student is given the syllabus assigned by the instructor unless under the program level.
Lessons are given to each student individual. In these lessons, instructor explains learning subjects at piano using piano sheets and gives feedback and homework etudes after the student playing.

Assessment Criteria

Exams aim to measure whether students have achieved the compentencies defined in the learning outcomes. Each student will be evaluated individually on the program determined by the instructor, not below the program level.
Playing all the pieces that responsible for the exam, the accuracy of the notes, dynamics, tempo and rhythm, the student's progress during the semester, the ability to prepare the given pieces on time, the attendance to the course and the attitude towards the course will be taken as criteria for evaluation.
