Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide the students with the ability of constructing and writing triad chords over main and secondary notes using 4 part choral writing.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Apply the basic principles of 4 part choral writing,
2   Distinguish the differences of major and minor tones and their main and secondary degrees,
3   Write 4 part triad chords over any tonalities 1st, 2nd,4th, 5th and 6th degrees in root form,
4   Analyze polyphonic basic piano pieces chordally,
5   Make harmonic constructions over bass lines.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The rules and techniques of polyphonic music writing will be given by the instructor with examples while the students will actively participate in the subjects in a turn based manner.
Home assignments will be given according to each subject to be delivered until the next class.
