Course Objective

Learning the embryology of central nervous system, anatomy, physiology, communication between neurons in the central nervous system, neurotransmitters, neuromodulators, neurohormones, and central nervous system diseases, and drugs used to treatment.

1   To explain the central nervous system.
2   To explain the anatomy of central nervous system.
3   To describe the physiology of central nervous system.
4   To discuss communication between neurons in the central nervous system, neuromodulators, neurohormones and neuromediator.
5   To discuss the pharmacology of central nervous system drugs.

2 Anatomy of central nervous system - The brain, part of cerebellum and functions - Afferent, efferent pathways and functions - Brain nucleus complexes and functions
3 Physiology of Central Nervous System - neuron types and their properties, electrical properties of the cell membrane of neurons - action potential and spread in excitable neuron - synaptic and axonal transmission - communication between neurons, neurotransmitters, neuromodulators, neurohormones, neuromediators
4 Opioid analgesics
5 Non-opioid analgesics
6 Antidepressants
7 Sedative -hypnotics
8 Antiepileptic drugs
9 Antiparkinson drugs
10 Drug abuse and addictions
11 Antipsychotics drugs
12 Centrally acting muscle relaxants
