Course Objective

To teach and gain ability to apprehend and comment the students within the context of methodology of History discipline by taking basic history sources into the center;
- on the main characteristics of general Turkish history and on the approaches to the periodic categorization of the Turkish history;
- the religions and believes experienced among pre-Islamic Turkish tribes and the effects of these belief systems on the Islamic Turkish history and culture;
- the problems related to questions and issues such as how Turks met with Islam, how Islam expanded among Turks, and understanding of Turks on Islam, and to know and reach the studies and sources related to the questions and issues;
- by using main historical and modern studies, to analyze the problems and developments of Islamic Turkish History and Islamic Turkish states and societies in terms of politic, social, economic and cultural aspects;
- and by doing so, to give a perspective for thinking on the dissertation and to create sensitivity and motivation for students those who finish the program to gain ability to create ideas, comments, and suggestions for the understanding and resolution of political, religious, social, academic, and cultural problems faced by Turkish nation and Islamic Turkish world.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Student, at the end of the semester, will; gain perspective on the general characteristics of Turkish history and on what basis the Turkish history categorized in terms of periods.
2   learn the belief systems accepted among pre-Islamic Turks and be aware of and get results from their effects on Islamic Turkish history and culture
3   have knowledge on the effects of the nature and process of interactions between Turks and Muslim Arabs, and so analyze the effects of these interactions to the Islamization of Turks, understanding and interpretation of Turks on Islam, and also to the Turkish history and culture.
4   apprehend the effects, contributions and importance of early Islamic Turkish dynasties to the Turkish and Islamic history and culture.
5   be able to evaluate the circumstances and dynamics led Seljukids to be a global Muslim Turkish state in a short while.
6   analyze the effects of Seljukids political, religious, and cultural activities to the history of Turks, Abbasids, Ahl as-Sunna, Islam and the World.
7   be aware of the place and importance of Seljukids in Turkish history and culture.
8   be able to correctly understand and interpret some political, religious, and cultural problems of modern Turkish society by focusing on the background of these problems within the framework of this course.
