Course Objective

Explain theoretical development of entrepreneurship. Relate main variables of entrepreneurship in the management and organization literature with its results in the practice area.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Define fundamental concepts, models and elements related to entrepreneurship theory.
2   Distinguish fundamental concepts and elements of entrepreneurship theory
3   Diagnose success and failure factors of entrepreneurs
4   Define fundamental variables and processes of corporate entrepreneurship
5   Relate results of managerial entrepreneurship to success or failure.
6   Explain individual, organizational and managerial differences of entrepreneur behavior
7   Necessitate information and acquire needed information.
8   Build, develop, apply and assess the results of a method to solve a problem within a scientific research context.

1 Reasons why entrepreneurship gains importance today, fundamental concepts, differences and its importance
2 Entrepreneurship in history of economic thoughts
3 Approaches that entrepreneurship thought is based upon, entrepreneurship schools
4 Entrepreneurship research (models)
5 Entrepreneurship behavior (individual)
6 Entrepreneurship as a firm behavior and performance relationship and notion of intrapreneurship
7 Corporate entrepreneurship and fundamental variables. (Midterm exam will also be held this week after course hour)
8 Entrepreneurship in management and organization theories
9 Entrepreneurship in management and organization theories (national and international culture and comparative theory)
10 Work plans, scope, work ideas, job creation processes, preparation of content and reporting.
11 Managerial entrepreneurship behavior and corporate impacts.
12 Effects of managerial entrepreneurship behavior on employees and the role of entrepreneurship in creating competitive advantage.
13 Writing of work plans, examination and evaluation.
14 Overall evaluation and presentation of term projects.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Assessment includes; case studies, role playing, discussion, team work, presentation and written examination besides theoretical analysis.

Rules related to midterm and final exams are: Questions are not general but specific, case study analyses should be made by using of proper terminology. Following points will be considered on this matter. Ability to use terminology properly, degree of consistency between cause and effect relationships of concepts. The solution to the problems should be well grounded, scientific, logical and convincing. Readings related to the course and having a grasp of the topics are important.
