Course Objective

To develop skills towards the structure of quantitative and qualitative research that can be used in mathematics education and recognize the characteristics, types and intended use of the quantitative and qualitative methods

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to explain what is the quantitative research, types, data collection and analysis processes.
2   To be able to examine the quantitative research in conducted mathematics education and to look critically them
3   To examine what is qualitative research, the types of data collection and analysis processess
4   To be able to examine the qualitative research in conducted mathematics education and to look critically them
5   To examine quantitative and qualitative research conducted in mathematics education field, and to look critically at these studies.

1 An overview of the research methods used in mathematics education, the similarities and differences of quantitative and qualitative research methods, examination of the place of research tradition of qualitative research
2 An overview of quantitative research methods used in mathematics education
3 Examination of the quantitative research designs in terms of mathematics education
4 Examination of the quantitative research process in terms of mathematics education
5 Selection of sampling in quantitative research in terms of mathematics education
6 Data collection process in quantitative research and examining researches conducted in mathematics education
7 Midterm exam.
8 An overview of qualitative research methods used in mathematics education
9 Examination of the qualitative research designs in terms of mathematics education
10 Examination of the qualitative research process in terms of mathematics education
11 Selection of tparticipants in quantitative research in terms of mathematics education
12 Data collection process in qualitative research and examining researches conducted in mathematics education
