Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Conservation concepts. The development of conservation approaches in Türkiye and in the World.
2 International conventions on natural and cultural issues: CBD, the Bern Convention, CITES, CMS, RAMSAR Convention.
3 International conventions related to cultural heritages. European Landscape Convention, Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage (World Heritage Convention), The laws and regulations on conservation of cultural heritages in Türkiye.
4 Conservation and planning strategies, planning for protection
5 Ecology-based nature conservation criteria, deep ecology approach
6 Conservation and development, conservation and tourism
7 The differences between sustainable tourism and eco-tourism approaches in terms of conservation concept, the principles of sustainable tourism and eco-tourism
8 General Review, Course Evaluation, Midterm Exam
9 Site concept in Conservation. National parks and biosphere reserves
10 Natural conservation areas, natural monuments, nature parks, wild life protection areas, marine conservation areas
11 Particular Environmental Conservation areas
12 Practices and investigations in sample area (Izmir Bird Paradise)
13 Non-governmental organizations and conservation. Important bird areas, important plant areas, important natural areas. Natura 2000 protected areas ecological network, marine conservation areas.
14 Sample area investigation (Dilek Peninsula NP)
