Course Objective

The aim of this course is to acknowledge about college counseling and guidance and understand prevention and intervention skills.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Remember developmental needs of college students 2   2. Understand the role and functions of college counselors 3   3. Aware of major problem areas of college students 4   4. Evaluate relations between problem areas and effective prevention and intervention services among university students 5   5. Evaluate college counseling research.

Week Subject Description 1 Course description 2 Developmental needs of college students 3 History and aims of college guidance and counseling services 4 College counseling centers 5 College counseling services: Individual interviews, psychiatric referral, crisis interventions and emergency action procedures 6 Group works, seminars and peer counseling 7 Services for Family and staff; supervision 8 Problem areas among college students: Depression, anxiety and suicide 9 Addictions (drug, cigarette, technological) 10 Romantic relations (dating violence) 11 Career issues (career stress, career indecision) 12 Intervention studies among college students (depression, anxiety and suicide) 13 Studies that aim to increase wellbeing among college students 14 Course evaluation
