Course Objective

This course aims the students
1- to comprehend the general characteristics of the period of the first two Caliphs, namely Abu Bakr and Omar; to gain acquaintance of the classical sources and modern researches; and to be able to analyze the historical anecdotes.
2- To have knowledge on the dynamics of the period.
3- To gain detailed information on the activities of Abu Bakr such as the safety of society, the stability of administrative structure; and on his personality and his executive vision.
4- To gain ability of analyzing and interpreting Omar s personality, his characteristic of city-building, and the accomplishments he performed for institutionalization of administrative structure and the formation of social justice by taking the historical materials into the centre.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The students taking this course; Will have knowledge on the socio-politic and economic structure of the periods of Abu Bakr and Omar.
2   Will be able to construct the personality, statesmanship, and the policy of conquest of Abu Bakr.
3   Will follow the personality, statesmanship, activities, and implications of social justice of Omar from classical sources.
4   Will analyze the properties of new-built cities, the formation of administrative and demographic structure and their impacts.
5   Will comprehend how Muslim and non-Muslim relations evolved within the period of Omar.
