Course Objective

To reveal the epistemological and methodological differences of Kalam and Philosophy, which tackle similar issues in religious thought, and to evaluate the criticism of each other on knowledge, existence, unity of God, prophethood and afterlife.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The students, will have information about common issues of kalam and philosophy..
2   will have information about the similarities and differences in epistemology of kalam and philosophy.
3   will have information about the similarities and differences in methodology of kalam and philosophy.
4   will have information about the Kalam s criticism to Muslim Philosophers on the main themes of belief.
5   will have information about the Islamic Philosophers criticism to Kalam on the main themes of belief.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Midterm and Final Exam:
In Mid-term and final exam, the students are asked questions in classical style about the resources, the schools, the scholars of the History of Islamic Theology and literature and their salient features.

Homework:
The student prepares a composition about the resources, the schools, the scholars of the History of Islamic Theology, and then presents this composition in printed output.

Assessment Criteria

The students will be assessed based on success in their mid-term, homework assignment and final exams along with their performance during the classes throughout the semester.
