Course Objective

The objective of this course is to understand the basic concepts of congress and meeting management; to classify different meeting types; analyze current developments in meeting sector in national and national levels. Students are expected to acquire competencies and skills regarding design, planning, management, application and evaluation of events by utilizing theoretical knowledge.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to identify the basic concepts of congress tourism and meeting management and classify different meeting types based on their characteristics.
2   To be able to monitor, examine and evaluate current developments in congress tourism in national and national levels.
3   To be able to identify and carry out necessary activities before, during and after event.
4   To be able to show an attitude suited to team-work, communication and leadership skills to carry out an effective event.

Assessment Criteria

Students need to organise an academic event during the term. Event should be organised as a team and each student should take active role in organisation. Event should follow all procedures and phases that any professional event should embrace. Students are responsible for planning, organising, financing and managing the event with all of its strengths and weaknesses. They are also responsible for the event's crisis management and should work on alternative scenarios in case of last minute changes and crises. The evaluation of the event should be presented as a report at the end of the term.

The assessment of event reports prepared in teams will be made according to the following criteria and grading scale:

Criterion 1- Event Management - The aim and goals of the event, the strategies related to the event site management, the preparation of an event schedule, the event budget, a post-event assessment, the distribution of responsibilities and tasks among students and the establishment of event committees should be explained in event reports. (60 points)

The topic is absent or falls short of expectations and/or does not relate to the overall content of the report (Poor, 0%)
The topic is dealt with briefly and with not enough information (Fair, 40%)
The topic is dealt with in light of adequate information and/or fits the overall content of the project at an acceptable standard (Good, 60%)
The topic covers all aspects and evolves in a logical flow (Very good, 80%)
The topic is presented with all available information and is discussed thoroughly and sucessfully (Excellent, 100%)

Criterion 2- Event Communication - How communication between both students and third parties is managed and faciliated, and what communication strategies are identified should be explained in event reports with proof documents. (20 points)

The topic is absent or falls short of expectations and/or does not relate to the overall content of the report (Poor, 0%)
The topic is dealt with briefly and with not enough information (Fair, 40%)
The topic is dealt with in light of adequate information and/or fits the overall content of the project at an acceptable standard (Good, 60%)
The topic covers all aspects and evolves in a logical flow (Very good, 80%)
The topic is presented with all available information and is discussed thoroughly and sucessfully (Excellent, 100%)

Criterion 3- Event Marketing - The establishment of an event programme according to the needs and expectations of target markets, the decisions made regarding the use of marketing tools and the management of the event's social media accounts should be explained in event reports. (20 points)

1. It is obligatory to attend at least 70% of the classes.
