Course Objective

It is aimed for students to learn theoretical knowledge and literature about main international monetary issues such as balance of payments and foreign exchange markets and to analyze Turkish economy and produce policy recommendations.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to get theoretical knowledge and actual literature on balance of payments.
2   To be able to analyze Türkiye's balance of payments.
3   To be able to produce alternative policy recommendations against Türkiye's current account deficits.
4   To be able to get theoretical knowledge and actual literature on foreign exchange rate systems and exchange rates policies.
5   To be able to analyze foreign exchange rate crisis by considering foreign exchange rate systems and policies applied in both Türkiye and the World.

5 Devaluation and Foreign Trade, J-Curve
6 Traditional and Dynamic Approaches as to Determining Exchange Rates
7 Foreign Exchange Rate Systems: Fixed Exchange Rates Systems, Flexible Exchange Rate Systems, Other Systems
8 Türkiye s Balance of Payments
9 Current Account Deficit Problem (Midterm exam will be held in this week except the course hour)
10 Capital Flows in Türkiye: Foreign Capital, Short-term Capital Flows
11 Exchange Rate Systems and Policies in Türkiye
12 Money Substitution, Inflation, Seigniorage and Exchange Rates
