Course Objective

To guide at young engineer candidate about the internal combustion engines that in sea transportation systems to examine as engineer with the synthesis of knowledge which learn from now on and to analyze the reason of potential problems about them.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To gain the ability of questioning problems in internal combustion engine as engineer.
2   Students will be able to find a chance to test about internal combustion engines with knowledge that gain their entire education life and to finish the argue about necessity of information from other lessons.
3   To get the habit of using standard, unit and dimension control in community for necessary in mechanical engineering applications and to use existing technique, capabilities and modern tools.
4   To gain habit of comprehensive thinking about environment, technology, economy and ethic.
5   At the end of the module, students will be expected to gain ability of researching, preparing presentation, making presentation in front of the society and reaching to an information.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Classification of internal combustion engines according to various criteria
2 Defining parameters of engines (power, moment, pressure, fuel consumption), perception of engine efficiency from consumers and managers; limitations, incentives, environmental awareness, engine testing arrangements.
3 Gas exchange inside cylinder of engine, engine construction, engine efficiency effect of environmental conditions, energy efficiency and legal limitations.
4 Fuels that used in internal combustion engines and examining combustion, searching for alternative fuels.
5 Fuel feed systems in internal combustion engines, abbreviations for defining engine characterizations and their meanings.
6 Engines that used in sea transportation
7 Engine materials and their properties, manufacturers of engine materials in Türkiye.
8 Examining cooling systems, lubricating systems and additives-cleaners for internal combustion engines
9 Distribution of engine technologies on the world, reasons and developments on engines, new technologies, importance of ECU and electronics in new engines
10 Evaluation of engine constructions as engineer (analyze and synthesis systematic), determine of error systematic.
