Course Objective

Objectives of the course are to discuss industrial pollution sources and treatment technologies for each industry, to provide a basic description and understanding of the main technologies and processes for industrial wastewater treatment.

2   Explain the aims of industrial wastewater treatment
3   Identify and explain the main treatment processes for industrial wastewaters
4   Develop alternative treatment plant flow schemes for different types of

3 Treatment of toxic organics
4 Principles and applications of physicochemical treatment processes: flotation, coagulation-flocculation
5 Principles and applications of physicochemical treatment processes: membrane filtration, ozonation.
6 Principles and applications of physicochemical treatment processes: photooxidation and advanced chemical oxidation processes.
7 First Mid-Term Exam
8 Stripping in industrial wastewater treatment
9 Treatability assessment based on wastewater properties
10 Treatment of pharmaceutical wastes
11 Treatment of power industry wastes
12 Case studies for major industrial wastes: pulp and paper, textile and food industry
13 Fundamentals of the minimization of industrial wastewaters
14 Assignment Presentation
