Course Objective

This course focuses on study of historical evolution of city centers, traditional and
modern centers, activities in city centers, activity linkages, characteristics of the
city core, spatial structure of city centers, problems and trends in processes of
change in city centers. Within such a context, the course intends to reveal the
changing context of city centers throughout history. In this respect, the course deals
with the city center as a structure, which is determined by change, but which, at the
same time, is one of the fundamental dynamics that cause change.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   will be able to define concept of city centers (knowledge)
2   will be able to analyse the changing context of city centers throughout history. (analyse and knowledge)
3   will be able to consider the city centers in context of the different tools of planning. (analyse and knowledge)
4   will be able to compare typlologies of traditional, modern and post modern city centers (knowledge)
