Course Objective

Contents of this course covers; the ability to learn agriculture problem, capitalism, small peasant holdings in Turkish agriculture, large land holdings, land rent and land reform, to argue the relationship between capitalism and agricultural-rural areas with state-village-agriculture-capital relations and to evaluate about the future of rural areas within neoliberal globalization process.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Vill be able to explain agricultural problem, capitalism and small peasantry.
2   Will be able to recognize the relationship of state-capitalism-village-capital.
3   Will be able to interpret the future of rural areas in the world within neoliberal globalization process.
4   Will be able to reveal new peasantry fact.
5   Will be able to evaluate new rural areas paradigms.

1 Conceptual definitions: rural areas, agricultural problem and capitalism
2 Small peasant holdings, large land holdings, inequalities in Turkish Agriculture.
3 The problems of land reform in Türkiye.
4 Capitalism, agriculture and land rent.
5 Capitalism and small family farming.
6 State-village-agriculture-capital relations.
7 Capitalist agricultural policies in Türkiye.
8 Mid-term Examination
9 Introduction of capitalism to rural areas and capitalist transformations in agriculture.
10 Neoliberal globalization and world agriculture.
11 The persistence of small peasantry and capitalism.
12 Industrial agriculture, relationship of production and shape of production.
13 New peasantry and future of rural areas in the world.
14 Presentations of assignments and discussions.
