Course Objective

The aim of the course is to let students understand nature from the standpoint of civilization. The concepts related with resources, environment and pollution will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to list the elements that play role in the emergence of nature
2   to describe nature within cultural history
3   to interpret the period of civilization
4   to analyze the impact upon resources in various scales of physical planning
5   to integrate features of nature with urban modes of production and the mutual effects of one upon the other
6   to evaluate the importance of nature in formation of urban areas

1 Main problems in approaching nature from standpoint of social-ideological settings within the cultural history; Western approach; fragmented view of world; active approach; creation of man-nature dichotomy
2 Eastern Approach; total world approach; mythological approach; passive approach; creation of man-nature harmony
3 Ecological Approach simultaneously . technological hygienic environmental consciousness . biological /ecological environmental consciousness
4 Concept of Commodity Concept of Resource
5 Relating Concepts of Commodity and Resource with Nature and natural elements Examination of Concepts of Commodity and Resource in terms of main approaches to nature
