Course Objective

To make the student appreciate design and production issues of small craft from different insights of the related industries.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be familiar with the design methods of small crafts in terms of different areas of knowledge and expertise.
2   Understanding a software related to boat design.
3   Learning the production methods and materials of small crafts.
4   Understanding the concepts of hydrostatics, stability, speed and power in small craft.
5   To be aware of small craft industry s different segments and their terminologies.

1 Introduction: classification of boats and project assignments.
2 Introducing the hull form.
3 Drawing the form of small craft with computer aided design.
4 Hydrostatics and stability analysis.
5 Interior materials and design.
6 Visualization in the design of small crafts.
7 Midterm.
8 Technical legislations and standards.
9 Structural elements and scantling.
10 Production methods and boat building materials: wood, steel, aluminium and FRP.
11 Resistance and propulsion, power estimation.
12 Maintenance and repair.
13 Painting applications.
14 Thermal confort.
