Course Objective

The course provides information about the definition, special properties and recovery systems of fine particles in the mineral processing industry. A theoretical and practical understanding of advanced flotation techniques (flocculation, jet flotation, oil agglomeration, electro-flotation, ion flotation, micro-flotation, column flotation), advanced magnetic seperation techniques and multi-gravity systems is also provided.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To obtain convenient beneficiation methods for ultrafine particles
2   To generate appropriate flow sheet for ultrafine particles
3   To define parameters used in the experimental study conducted for ultrafine particles
4   To evaluate the results of those parameters
5   To perform the industrial application of the beneficiation method for ultrafine particles

4 Description, techniques, theory of column flotation, sizing of column flotation, the world-wide application of column flotation
5 Experimental studies to beneficiate the ores and coal by column and conventional flotation
6 Theory and definition of ion, microflotation and electro-flotation
7 Theory, definition and application of jet flotation
8 Recent techniques and specific gravitational beneficiation methods Definition, technique and lab. study of multigravity separator with fine particles
9 Definition, technique and lab. study of Falcon gravity separator with fine particles
10 Definition, technique and lab. study of Knelson gravity separator with fine particles
11 Definition, technique and lab. study of magnetic beneficiation with fine particles
12 Definition, technique and lab. study of other gravimetric methods for fine particles
13 Industrial application of those methods

Assessment Criteria

The evaluation will be performed by the responses to the questions asked during the course. EC 2-EC 3 and EC4 evaluation will be conducted with the follow-up reports of lab. studies. The rest of EC will be evaluated by the related questions asked in the exams.
