Course Objective

Culture has an important role in the formation of physical environment and the social structure. On the other hand, place, as being a major component of the physical environment is one of the tools to identify the cultural inputs within the physical and social environment. In this framework, the course aims to provide an understanding on culture-space relations and their role within the preservation of heritage places.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Defining the concepts of space; place and culture,
2   2. Questioning culture-space relations,
3   3. Questioning the value of cultural representation of a place,
4   4. Gaining awareness of the social and cultural inputs within the heritage places,
5   5. Correlating the cultural, spatial and social dynamics within the preservation of heritage places.
