Course Objective

The aim of the course is to explain the concept of Modern Architecture, which is one of the new problems of the conservation field, through definition, scope, quality and legislation and to discuss conservation problems. For this purpose, the concept and historical process of Modern Architecture will be explained firstly, than the emergence of Modern Architectural Heritage notion and critics related with it in the conservation paradigm will be discussed. Conservation issues of Modern Architectural Heritage will be discussed at national and international levels through legal legislation, social acceptance and practice.
After all lessons; students are expected to propose a building / structure group / site to be evaluated within the scope of the Modern Architectural Heritage. Also students are expected to evaluation of their proposals within the scope of the Modern Architectural Heritage and to prepare a file containing the necessary information for legal registration (history of the building/site, drawing, photography, conservation criteria etc.)

1   To understand the concept of modern architecture and its historical process
2   To be able to define the concept of modern architectural heritage
3   To be able to evaluate Modern Architectural buildings in the context of architectural heritage and to define its quality
4   To be able to sophisticatedly define Modern Architectural Heritage and its conservation problems
5   To be able to consider Modern Architectural Heritage conservation practices as critical.
6   To study on a research about Modern Architectural Heritage of Türkiye and generate registration purpose.
