Course Objective |
Lecture begins with the introducing some basic oceanographic events. Striking phenomena due to wind-driven circulation are explained with the minimum use of mathematical equations. Especially in subpolar region density plays an important role by occuring overturning events with the effects of climate. Lecture continues with the explanation of the essentials and fundamentals of physical oceanography. Properties of seawater are described from the point of view of temperature, salinity and density variations. The equations most commonly used are given to describe water motions and boundary conditions, starting with the fundemental hydrodynamic and thermodynamic conservation principles. In the last lectures the classification and short explanation ocean waves and also some processes which occuring frequently in the ocean and effecting whole water body will be discussed. |
