Course Objective

The aim of the course is to introduce ancient sea trade and the chronological and regional classification and typological features of amphoras, which were the most commonly used transport containers in sea trade.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Recognize the maritime trade in antiquity
2   Be aware of importance of mainly containers used for transportation in ancient times in historical perspective
3   Determine the maritime trade routes and cargo types used by different civilizations
4   Classify the main commercial goods transported in ancient times and production sites
5   Be able to describe the main trade centers and harbor cities
6   Be able to support the protection of underwater cultural heritage creating a management model based on the investigation and interpretation
7   Be qualified enough to perform research on international level
8   Be able to gain a different perspective in archeology using multi-disciplines such as maritime, history, economics, etc.
