Course Objective

The main objective of this course is the introduction of the environmental pollution and its control technologies.

2   Learn the methods used in water treatment
3   Learn the methods used in wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal
4   Learn the principles of waste management
5   Improve research, investigation, interprettaion and presentation skills

2 The Water Quality Variables (Physical, Chemical and Biological Water Quality Parameters)
3 Water Quality Requirements (in-stream standards, potable water standards, wastewater effluent standards); iquid Waste Management Concept
4 Water Supply System (Water Sources, Water Distribution Systems, Water Treatment Plants)
5 Wastewater Collection Systems (Types of Collection Systems, Types of Sewers, Basic Considerations in the Design of Sewers)
6 Physical Treatment Processes (Screening, Comminuting, Grit Removal, Flow Measurement, Primary Sedimentation)
7 Chemical Processes (Coagulation, Flocculation, Chemical oxidation/reduction, Neutralization, Disinfection)
8 Biological Processes (Growth and Food Utilization, Suspended Culture Systems, Activated Sludge, Ponds and Lagoons)
9 Biological Processes (Attached-Culture Systems, Trickling Filters, Rotating Biologic Contactors, Biofilters); Advanced Treatment (Nitrogen and Phosphorus Removal);
