Course Objective

In this course, basic theories and applications concerning heating, ventilation and climatization shall be introduced for the naval architects and performers of maritime technologies; and information on HVAC project designing and implementations in vessels shall be provided.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to define the source of thermal stress in the working/living environment
2   To be able to understand the nature of thermal stress in the human body
3   To be able to define the measurement methods and instruments required to assess the thermal environment
4   To be able to evaluate the risk of being subjected to thermal stress
5   To be able to suggest control approaches adequate for the thermal environment
6   To be able to make contribution for the improvement of thermal comfort in the design stages of vessels
7   To be aware of the software related with the subject and to be able to utilize at least one of them
8   To develop inventions by collecting research material and carry on innovation works

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Semester project (course work) shall be performed in parallel to the theoretical representations and applications to be given in the course. Project shall be applied on a small craft and its efficiency shall be evaluated in terms of feasibility. Final exam shall be prepared so that it shall include both implementations and all course materials.

Attendance: Even though attendance of the student to each course is expected, compulsory attendance is 70%. .Attendance will be taken at the beginning of the each class. Plagiarism: Plagiarism will be reported to Academic
Judiciary Board and can result in getting zero on the assignements / exams and failing course. Late assignement: All assignements are due at the beginning of the class. The extentions will not be garnted. Accommodations: Students are required to let the instructor know any special accommodation needed due to learning disabilities, medical needs, etc.
