Course Objective

The aim of this course is to understand the relationship between plant communities in terrestrial ecosystems and their environment. Vegetation Ecology covers topics such as Vegetation, synecology, Community Ecology, Landscape Ecology, Phytosociology, Plant Sociology, Numerical Ecology and covers different systems from populations to ecosystems.

1 The aim, scope and importance of vegetation knowledge course; content of the course
2 Plant association, formation of association, naming of associations
3 Vegetation sampling methods, sampling areas
4 Types of vegetation. Plant formations
5 Distinctive characteristics of vegetation, structural features, abundance overlap values, physiomic properties
6 Unifying properties of vegetation, presence, minimal area, loyalty, homogeneity and heterogeneity
7 Succession, stages of succession and climax, primary and secondary succession
8 Midterm
9 Vegetation structure of Türkiye: Phytogeographic regions, vegetation layers of different vegetation types, classes, orders, and / or wedding ring at the level of classification
10 Composition and species diversity of plant communities
11 Landscape Ecology: Definition and basic concepts. Elements of landscape. Ecotons and their biological values. Changes in landscape in the context of time and space.
12 Syntaxonomy: International syntaxonomy naming code (Zurich - Montpellier school). Characteristic and distinctive species concepts. Nomenclature of plant associations.
13 Vegetation ecology, numerical analysis methods, multivariate analysis
