Course Objective

The aim of this course is to gain the necessary competencies for analyzing, interpreting and reporting statistical data by using the correct data analysis techniques with the help of package programs in the fields required by business life and academic studies.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learn statistical data collection tools and methods.
2   It processes the data collected for a scientific research on the computer.
3   Decides the right data analysis technique and analyzes the statistical data.
4   Reports and reports the obtained statistical results.
5   Uses the statistical package program effectively for data analysis.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Basic concepts of qualitative and quantitative research methods: data, parameter, variable, data collection tools, statistical series types, variable types, data types, scale types, survey design, classification of statistical methods and selection process of the appropriate method.
2 Introduction to SPSS: SPSS general introduction, basic commands.
3 Editing data in SPSS package program, coding, labeling and entering data in SPSS.
4 Introducing the menus of the SPSS package program.
5 Data entry, data file creation and saving in SPSS package program.
6 Calculation of descriptive statistics in SPSS package program, frequency tables, cross tables, mean, median, kurtosis, skewness and graphical display of data.
7 Hypothesis testing, normality analysis in SPSS package program.
8 Mid-Term Exam.
9 Parametric tests in SPSS package program: Single sample t-test, independent sample t-test, paired sample t-test, z test, ANOVA test.
10 Nonparametric tests in SPSS package program: Chi-square test, Chi-square homogeneity test, Chi-square independence test, Chi-square goodness of fit test, Man Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis H test, Wilcoxon test.
11 Analysis of variance in SPSS package program: one-way analysis of variance, two-way analysis of variance.
12 Correlation analysis, reliability analysis in SPSS package program, Factor analysis in SPSS.
13 Simple linear regression analysis, multiple linear regression analysis in SPSS package program.
14 General evaluation and interpretation of SPSS program outputs.
15 General evaluation and interpretation of SPSS program outputs.
16 Final Exam.

Assessment Criteria

There will be held on two in class exams; midterm exam and final exam during the semester.
Grades: 50 % Midterm Exam, 50 % Final Exam, 50 % Make up Exam.
