Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach students the basic terminology used in medicine and to ensure they understand and use medical terminology. This will enable students to develop their skills in effectively communicating within the medical community.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Can provide a general overview of medical terminology.
2   Can identify the roots, prefixes, and suffixes of medical terms.
3   Lists and classifies anatomical terminology.
4   Interprets the meanings of medical documents.
5   Can explain the correct spelling and pronunciation of medical terms.
6   Explains basic physiology and disease terms.
7   Defines medical procedures and treatments.
8   Can associate disease symptoms and diagnoses with medical terms.
9   Can communicate effectively with medical terminology.
10   Effectively uses medical information and resources.

2 Cellular System and Medical Terminology: Cell biology and related medical terms.
3 Musculoskeletal System and Medical Terminology: Muscle and bone structure, function, and related medical terms.
4 Digestive System and Medical Terminology: Digestive system organs and related medical terms.
5 Circulatory System and Medical Terminology: Heart, blood, and blood vessels, and related medical terms.
6 Respiratory System and Medical Terminology: Respiratory organs and related medical terms.
7 Urinary System and Medical Terminology: Urinary system organs and related medical terms.
8 Nervous System and Medical Terminology: Brain, nerves and related medical terms.
9 Endocrine System and Medical Terminology: Hormones, glands, and related medical terms.
10 Lymphatic/Immune System and Medical Terminology: Lymphatic system, immunity, and related medical terms.
11 Reproductive System and Medical Terminology: Reproductive organs and related medical terms.
12 Skin and Medical Terminology: Skin, hair, nails and related medical terms.
13 Review of Medical Documents and Interpretation of Meanings: Medical documents and usage of terminology.
14 Medical Communication and Use of Resources: Effective communication with medical terminology and use of medical resources.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course will be delivered with an approach that includes both theoretical and practical aspects. Students will be presented with lectures, interactive discussions, group work, and medical case analyses. The course will also involve individual and group studies that will allow students to apply the terminology in everyday medical scenarios and case studies.
