Course Objective

The aim of the course is to enable students to define and present a design problem through conceptual, urban, cultural, social, and historical aspects, and to transform their ideas into spatial and formal design within a program.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To comprehend, present, and analyze the design problem within the framework of diverse relationships of ranging from the natural environment to urban, regional, and global scale
2   To transform their inquiries into a design idea with a perspective that carries a critical and responsible attitude towards the city, environment, and society
3   To develop an original concept and produce innovative and creative architectural solutions for a small and simple, medium or large-scale and complex program
4   To elaborate and present architectural proposals by developing them in terms of spatial, structural, and technical equipment
5   To integrate interdisciplinary information into the design process and manage the process autonomously

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Final jury is an exam that covers an assessment of the entire process of developing a research-based architectural design project and handling the design problem in multiple ways.
Evaluations will be made within the frameworks of; 1) The students ability to analyze and interpret the given context in multiple ways, 2) The students ability to investigate the architectural design problem in a versatile way, 3) The students ability to develop and design a small, medium or large-scale architectural program and its spatial counterparts within the framework of a main idea with original and comprehensive solutions, 4) The students ability to provide conceptual depth, clarity, and continuity of the main idea throughout the process, 5) The students ability to express their projects visually, textually, and verbally.

Course Policies and Rules

1. It is imperative to attend classes and participate in discussions, as well as collective and individual crits during the semester. In addition to submitting and presenting the project on concept jury, preliminary jury, and final jury, it is also obligatory to comply with the rules announced by the lecturers at the beginning of the course.
2. All kinds of plagiarism will result in a disciplinary action.
3. Late submissions will be subject to a different evaluation.
