Course Objective

The main aim of the course is to constitute the graphic design base for students to present their projects / designs creatively and effectively in computer environment, and also to improve their skills to use effective presentation methods and visualization techniques in accordance with their design concept by using related computer programs.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding the importance of an effective visual presentation in the expression of design and the techniques required for this
2   Understanding the basic principles of graphic design and being able to use it in visualizations
3   To be able to visualize different stages of a design with different graphic techniques (sheet, poster, brochure, booklet, slide presentation, animation, etc.) and use computer programs required for this.
4   To be able to prepare effective presentation sheets for a design product with high graphic value with all its components such as conceptual analysis, concept diagrams, written text, two and three dimensional visuals, and creating

1 Graphic and Visual Techniques in Architecture, the importance and progress
2 Basic principles of the Graphic Design and Potentials for Architectural Presentations
3 Techniques for visualization and presentation of the concept of the architectural projects (analyses, conceptual diagrams, audial and visual expressions, using different tools such as video, sound etc.)
4 General Information about using the Adobe Photoshop Computer lab.
5 Architectural concept presentations in digital media, visualization exercises in Photoshop Computer lab.
6 Converting the 2D and 3D drawings for Photoshop and preparing for an expressive poster presentations Computer lab.
7 Coloring, lighting, texture mapping exercises in Photoshop Computer lab.
8 Mid-term Exam Computer lab.
9 Preparing the poster presentation I- expressive graphic design, compositional unity, expressing the story, visualization exercises in Photoshop Computer lab.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lectures: Theoretical lectures will be given and applied presentations of visualization techniques with Photoshop will be made during the course.
Research and Design Excercises: Students will be expected to present their projects. However, a design exercise or workshop will be practiced at the end of the term for developing the creative ideas of students. Students must actively participate the courses all term.

Assessment Criteria

Assignments might be given in the light of group presentations and weekly discussions and prepared individually. In order to achieve the final exam, it is highly recommended to submit all assignments on time and regularly, and revise them with the guidance of the instructor. Group presentations require a collaborative effort. It is the group's responsibility to ensure that each group member contributes to the group work equally. Student participation will depend on, the student's attendance, the quality of student's responses to the questions during the course and the student's contribution to create a positive learning environment.
