Course Objective

Introducing the clothing technologies and related technological equipments and devices. Also working principles and technological details of clothing machines and various devices.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to understand fabric control machines and working principles used in raw material entry in apparel enterprises
2   Ability to understand spreading and cutting technologies in apparel industry.
3   Ability to understand basic sewing types used in apparel industry. To comprehend basic machine settings and maintenance skills for various sewing machines used in the garment industry.
4   Determining the basic advantages of automation technologies, apparatus and auxillary devices applications.
5   Ability to understand the importance of finishing processes such as button / button-hole / pressing etc.

Course Contents

1 Fabric inspection machines and devices in apparel production
2 Introduction of spreading technologies, working principles of spreading machines and mechanisms
3 Cutting systems used in cutting-rooms and technologies / working principles related to different cutting mechanisms
4 Marking machines, Technologies related to fusing presses, working principles
5 Introduction to basic sewing types and formation mechanisms used in apparel industry, Sewing / seaming concepts, Introducing different sewing methods
6 Introduction to sewing machine parts such as sewing needle, transporter, tension, shuttle-bobbin, hook, looper, which are involved in stitch formation.
7 1st mid-term exam
8 Application studies, basic settings and introduction to maintenance procedures on the lock-stitch sewing machine
9 Introuction to the automation systems used in sewing machines, additional apparatus, accessories / equipment and the advantages they provide.
10 Application studies, basic settings and introduction to maintenance procedures on the overlock machine
11 Application studies, basic settings and introduction to maintenance procedures on the cover-stitch machine
12 Application studies, basic settings and introduction to maintenance procedures on the button / button-hole machine. Introduction to pressing technologies in apparel industry.
13 2 nd mid-term exam
14 Introduction to conveyor systems, hanging systems etc. used in apparel production lines. and other finishing technologies i.e. folding, stain removing etc.
