Course Objective

It is aimed to provide basic information on the physical properties of fibres, yarns and fabrics.

4   Ability to argue on the behavioral properties of textiles

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Internal structure of the firbes and basic properties; chemical, dimensional, contour properties
2 Tensile properties of fibres and factors affecting these properties
3 Flexural and frictional properties of fibres and affecting factors
4 Structural properties of yarns; diameter, twist, yarn packing
5 Tensile properties of yarns and affecting factors
6 Flexural, friction and compressibility properties of yarns
7 Structural properties of fabrics and fabric geometry (one example for woven, knitted and nonwoven fabrics)
8 Problem solving
9 Tensile properties of fabrics and affecting factors
10 Flexural properties of fabrics and affecting factors
11 Shear and drapability properties of fabrics, affecting factors
12 Problem solving
13 Compressibility and friction properties of fabrics
14 Permeability, thermal and electircal properties of textiles and affecting factors
